Teaching color in Film

As teachers we can get so caught up in the technology of film that we forget to teach the aesthetics and art of filmmaking.

Color is a great story telling tool in Film, it can represent emotion a Person does not know that they are feeling and guide the viewer through the story.

As an educator I needed a little bit of a refresher coarse on color. The resources below helped me to better understand color theory in film. It's a little different than the good ol' 2D art styles.

Here is a wonderful video essay, that goes into detail about the use and purpose of color in film.

If you are not into showing videos in your classroom, and you want your students to have a reading assignment, here is a great free ebook that outlines color and gives examples of color combinations and their meanings.
